7 Ways to Make Dad’s Day
May 18, 2016
Dads have so many unique ways to make us smile, so as this Father’s Day (June 19) approaches, let’s all take a moment to celebrate dads. Whether they’re making a mess trying to fix the car or making us facepalm with their cringe-worthy jokes, for most of us, the little moments that we get to spend with our dads are precious. They remind us of who we are and where we come from. Even if that heritage can be a little embarrassing at times (must you wear your fishing hat into the store, dad?), deep down we know we wouldn’t trade him for anyone else.
Make sure he knows that too by taking some extra time this Father’s Day to plan something special that will truly make his day. Here’s just a few ideas to get you started.
- Celebrate his hobbies. Everyone has something they’re just into, and dads are no exception. Whether your dad is a fisherman or a fashion master, getting him a gift that celebrates what he loves is a surefire way to make his day. Even better, if his hobby is something you can join him in, plan a special time to enjoy it together. A little golf competition never hurt anybody!
- Food-ify his Father’s Day! Let’s face it: everyone loves food. Whether you bake him a special treat or take him out to his favorite pizzeria, Father’s Day is the perfect excuse to treat your pops to a special culinary experience.
- Gather friends and family to celebrate together. Chances are, you’re not the only one in your family that thinks your dad is pretty cool. Organize a Father’s Day get-together to celebrate all the dads in the family at once, or schedule something special just for your dad and his kids.
- Make him something one-of-a-kind. If you’re a Pinterest-crafting wiz, this is probably an automatic go-to. But even if you haven’t improved much since your preschool crafting days, there’s something nostalgic and charming about a handmade gift! A simple card with a handwritten note and stickers is an easy way to add that personal touch without having to risk papercuts and glued-together fingers.
- Chase a new adventure! Skydiving, horseback riding, and hot-air balloon rides are great adventures that you can share with your loved ones. Even if your dad isn’t up for quite that much excitement, there’s always the good old road trip, or the latest and greatest in theater experiences.
- Spoil him rotten. Who says spa days and shopping trips are only for moms? Maybe your dad isn’t into mani-pedis, but a shopping spree at Sportsman’s Warehouse or a relaxing afternoon on a boat are great ways to show your dad that you enjoy just spending time with him.
- Romantic getaway with mom. Maybe you already spend a ton of time around dad, and you know that what he really wants is the chance to get away from it all. Whether you keep it low-key with movie tickets and a gift card for a nice restaurant, or go all-out by paying for a hotel room in a nearby romantic destination, this is a great way to give your dad some time to relax and enjoy some alone time with mom.
