A Different Kind of Egg Hunt

Easter is nearly here and it’s important to take a moment and reflect on the finer things in life: friends, family, love, and Easter Egg Hunts! Whether you’re spending the day as part of a huge neighborhood hunt or enjoying a small backyard affair, the time spent with loved-ones is always awesome. If, however, you happen to be the type to spend time bathed in the glow of technology rather than digging through the dirt, here’s a list of slightly different kinds of Easter eggs.
Facebook Messenger Basketball
Just as we’re in the thick of March Madness, Facebook released a hidden basketball mini-game within the (updated!) Facebook Messenger App for both Android and iOS phones and tablets.
- Simply open the app, select an unsuspecting friend to message, and send them the basketball emoji.
- Once they’re thoroughly confused as to why you sent them a basketball emoji out of the blue, click the basketball and the game will launch!
- Using your finger, swipe to shoot the basketball into the hoop. When you score, celebratory emojis pop up, like a smiley face or a thumbs up. When you miss, you get sad faces. The game gets more challenging after you break 10 points, and the basket begins moving from side to side as you shoot.
The real challenge, however, is not becoming obsessed. Android Lollipop Game
Flappy Bird Mania may be so last year, but that shouldn’t stop you from wasting perfectly good time on it! If you own a phone running Android Lollipop, you don’t need to download anything—you already have a Flappy Bird clone tucked away on your device. Here’s how to get to it.
- Unlock your device and hop on over to the Settings app, then scroll all the way down and tap “About phone”.
- Next, tap the Android version listing...and keep tapping. Eventually, the Settings app will slide out of the way and will be replaced by an onscreen lollipop (because it’s Android Lollipop. Get it?).
- Now, tap the lollipop and hold your finger down for a second or two, and repeat this process a few times. Eventually, the lollipop will slide out of the way, and you’ll get a fully playable game of Flappy...Android?
- Tap the screen to start a new game, then keep tapping to try and navigate your Android through a series of lollipop-styled gates.
Eventually, you’ll score a point or two. Maybe. Or you’ll continually crash before you clear the first gate. But you’ll keep playing because it’s REALLY addictive. You’re welcome. While we can’t offer you real lollipops, we can offer a cute keychain to keep your keys in sweet company.

Google Earth Flight Simulator
Strap on your aviator goggles and put on your scarf, it’s time get your pilot’s wings! Did you know Google Earth has a free built in flight simulator and you can fly all over the world? It launched in 2007, but with improvements in speed and data since, in some ways it’s the best simulator you can fly!
- Inside Google Earth, look for the menu choice under the Tools menu called Enter Flight Simulator. It used to be a lot harder to activate, needing special keystrokes to “unlock” but has since been made more accessible.

If you’re like most of us, though, you’ll just be happy you’re not crashing a real plane. For endless street-cred, adorn your lowly “ground vehicle” with a bumper sticker that lets everyone in rush hour that you wish you were flying.
Flying Hearts on Facebook Messenger
It doesn’t have to be Valentine’s Day to show someone you care!
- If you update the Facebook Messenger App and send a heart emoji (any color) or a sticker from any of the “in love” categories, suddenly flying hearts appear across both screens.
When it was first introduced, many users thought they were hallucinating and Facebook actually had to write out a public statement about the new feature. If flying hearts aren’t exciting enough for your significant other, try our best selling “I Love You More” dog tag so they can wear your love close to their heart. (And send them plenty of emojis to really bring the message home.)

Google Chrome Mini-Game
Google is one of those companies where they keep their developers happy, even if it means giving them free reign over silly things that only appear when the product (in this case their web browser) isn’t even working. If you’ve ever had spotty wifi coverage and you use Google Chrome, it’s certain that you’ve seen that little T-Rex staring you down from its perch above the words, “Unable to Connect to the Internet.” What you probably didn’t know, however, is that that T-Rex is hoping you’ll play a game with him before returning to your previously scheduled internet browsing.
- Press the spacebar and suddenly it’s your job to help the dinosaur jump over cacti and see how long you can last.
- The game keeps track of your high score, and if you accidentally land on a cactus you can always retry. Either that, or you can stop playing and try to figure out why your internet isn't working… But, we’ll leave you to determine which is more fun.
